Before you write, the app can usually answer it faster than we can: open Test a rule to see exactly which of your rules match a cart and why, or Activity to see what happened on a real order.

Common questions

Why is the COD fee added after the order is placed, not at checkout?

Shopify does not let any app add a fee to the checkout total on stores outside Shopify Plus. So the app does the next best thing, and does it openly: the fee is shown in the payment method’s name (and on the cart page, with the Payment choice block) before the buyer chooses, then added to the order the moment it is placed, so it appears on the order and the invoice your courier collects against. Shopify sends its order confirmation email before that edit, so the email shows the total without the fee. To state the amount to pay on delivery, add the COD fee notice block to your Thank-you page (Settings → Checkout → Customize, page Thank you, Apps). It works on every plan.

My rule is on, but nothing happens at checkout.

Three things to check, in order. Did you press Publish changes? Edits are saved as you make them but only reach checkout when published. Does the rule name the payment method exactly as your checkout shows it? A renamed gateway is the most common cause. And is the rule inside your plan’s allowance? The Rules page marks any rule your plan holds back as Not live.

The prepaid discount never applies.

No Shopify app can see which payment method a buyer picks inside checkout, so a discount for paying online depends on the buyer saying so first. Add the Payment choice block to your cart page: Online Store → Themes → Customize, open the Cart template, choose Add block, and pick Payment choice under Apps.

Can a discount be removed when the buyer picks COD?

Not at the moment they pick it: Shopify does not let any app see which payment method a buyer has selected inside checkout. So you choose what happens instead, under COD fee → Discounts and cash on delivery:

  • Hide cash on delivery while a discount is applied — recommended, and it works on every plan. The buyer keeps the discount and pays online at checkout, or removes a discount code and cash on delivery comes back. Automatic discounts count too, because Shopify does not tell apps whether a discount came from a code: with an automatic sale, cash on delivery stays hidden while it applies. To tell buyers before they reach checkout, turn on the COD notice (store-wide) embed (Online Store → Themes → Customize → App embeds): your message on every page, for as long as this choice is on. A COD notice block for the cart or product page is there too (Add block → Apps). In checkout itself, the payment methods still offered say why in their names, e.g. “Razorpay (remove the discount to pay cash on delivery)”: that is Also say it in your other payment methods' names, on the same page. They say it only when the discount is the one reason: if another rule also hides cash on delivery for that cart, such as one on postcodes or order value, the names stay as they are. Shopify keeps the names of methods shown as a logo, such as PayPal, and, outside Shopify Plus in the US and Canada, of card payments.
  • On Shopify Plus, cash on delivery is hidden in the same way. Add CODeal’s block under the payment methods in the checkout editor, and checkout also shows your message there, where cash on delivery would be.
  • Keep COD, charge the discount back — only for stores that were already using it. Cash on delivery stays, and what the discount took off is added to the order after it is placed; the payment method’s name tells the buyer first. Once you save another choice, it is no longer offered.
  • Let discounts apply to COD orders, the same as any other payment method.

What happens to my rules if I downgrade?

Nothing is deleted. Anything over the new plan’s allowance stays saved and simply stops being published; it goes live again the moment you upgrade. Rules run in priority order, so the ones at the top are the ones that stay live.

Is there a limit on orders?

No. There is no order limit on any plan, including Free.

How do I cancel?

To stop paying but keep using CODeal, open Plan in the app and click Switch to Free. The paid plan is cancelled straight away and nothing you built is deleted. To stop using CODeal altogether, uninstall it from Shopify admin → Settings → Apps; billing stops immediately and is handled entirely by Shopify.
